Multi Tabling Advantages
Multi tabling is when an online poker player plays more then one table at a time. If you're reading this article, you're probably wondering "Why should I multi table?" Besides the obvious advantage of seeing more hands per hour, there are many other subtle benefits of playing multiple tables at once. The first we'll talk about is seeing more hands per hour.
When you play multiple tables, you will obviously see more hands then you would at one table. This is great for a winning player, because they can increase their hourly rate. Also, for impatient players, you are likely to have a quality hand at one of your tables, so you'll be less tempted to play marginal hands out of boredom.
Another advantage of playing many tables is that you won't be overanalyzing hands and players. When you sit at one table, you may tend to over think your moves, and this can lead to poor play.
A great example of this is if you see a player bluff the previous pot, then they bet into you on the next pot. In this situation you may call just because of his last move. However, even though he bluffed last hand he may still be a tight, solid player. When you're playing many tables you won't have time to overanalyze the hand, and you may be better off.
Another advantage of multi tabling is that you'll have more consistent winnings. For example, you play one $1/$2 table with a $200 buy in versus playing four $.25/$.50 tables with $50 at each. At the $200 table you will have greater swings, and are more likely to bust. However, at the smaller tables, you'll have swings at each table, but they'll even out to a consistent gain.
Also, when you play at multiple low limit tables instead of one high limit table you'll be less likely to go on tilt. This is because if you have a bad beat at one of your small tables, it will only be a small hit to your bankroll, and you may already be winning it back at the other tables. However, if you have a bad beat at your big table, it's going to leave a big hit in your bankroll, and you won't have any other tables to be winning the money back at.
