What is 3D Poker?
February 15, 2007
To sum it up in one sentence, 3D poker is a new generation of online poker. 3D poker has recently started taking off earlier this year with a poker room called PKR. The first time I saw PKR, I was simply stunned. I couldn't get over the amazing graphics and the animations that each individual could do while at the table.
Since then, PKR has become the most dominant 3D poker room on the planet. They are coming out with regular updates, one of the most recent ones being table in table multi-tabling. This is perfect for people who haven't switched to 3D poker yet because they like to play anywhere from three to four tables. Both PKR's new feature, you are now able to play up to four tables at one time. If you have an up-to-date computer, you will be able to play all four tables with no slowdown and everything will be very smooth. If you don't have the best computer, then you can play PKR on something that is called "min spec." What this does is tone down the graphics so your computer can handle it better.
Now, PKR is just one option. Another new 3D poker room is Pokerwize, which is also very unique. Pokerwize is still a 3D poker room, but unlike PKR, it is basically the same speed as the normal 2D poker rooms. So, you can play 3D poker at the same speed that you've always been used to.
In the regular online poker rooms that you may be used to, you basically sit down and look at a steady table image. In the new generation of online poker, which would be other rooms such as PKR and Pokerwize, the camera can move around the table, getting you a real life poker experience. That's not all, each player can also make quite a few different expressions at any time. You may even be able to catch on if your opponent is using a pattern to help read specific situations.
Overall, it is very difficult to understand what 3D poker is all about until you have experienced it. I suggest starting out at either Pokerwize or PKR. Once you start playing 3D poker, it's going to be pretty hard to switch back to the basic online poker rooms that you've been used to.
